Frank,

Your work is tremendous and inspiring. Your message is articulate and on point. The funding will come - it was a struggle for the early years at IFYC and now requires more infrastructure because of the size of the budget (it takes a lot more to raise $3M than $30K!). You have a local resource in NYC that may be a great place to start - the Blue Ridge Foundation provides not only start-up funds for NYC-based nonprofits, but an extraordinary bank of resources and connections to colleagues who are also starting nonprofits. Check them out at: http://www.brfny.org/. They may even give you funds w/o the 501(c)3 status and may provide start up administrative support - you don't want to be encumbered by building adminstrative systems, filing taxes, etc. in your early years when you should be focused on building your network, your programs and your funding base. Consider asking Blue Ridge if they can be your "fiscal agent" and take care of that stuff for you for the first few years.

Peace,
April
