Happy New Years!

This time of the year is usually very bitter sweet for me. This year, it was sweeter—Eid fell right around Christmas time, and Hanukah and Diwali were not too far off, so it was nice being able to share the holiday spirit with most people around me. It’s bitter because I always look upon each year with a definite level of unease. Last year, I was a little excited because the New Year meant that I would be heading off to Egypt soon for my spring semester. To think back a year and reflect upon all of the experiences I have had and everything I have learned and seen during that time period is really overwhelming, come to think of it. 2007 is winding down and I think I made the best of it. 2008, however, is a bit more scary—impending graduation. I’m sure the other seniors can empathize. I have been thinking quite a bit about what I want to do after graduation and I feel like the past few months I’ve been really inspired to incorporate some sort of interfaith work into my plans for post-graduation. I think it could be very easy to get caught up in the working world, graduate schools, life after college, and lose touch with the issues we were passionate about during college. I really hope that doesn’t happen to me and that I can find some way to be consistently involved.

Anyways, I want to wish all of you a Happy New Years! Hope you’re all enjoying your breaks.
